  • How To Add Pockets To Dresses and Skirts

I spent a little time polishing up the in-seam pocket pattern & tutorial, which shows you how to add in-seam pockets to your dresses and skirts.  You can use the pattern to add the pockets to your existing garments, or add these to any skirt/dress patterns that you’re constructing as well.  The steps are easy to follow and you have pictures at each step of the way illustrating the process, so it’s perfect for beginner sewers.

You can check out the brief pocket tutorial for free on the blog — or you can buy the full version with the printable pocket pattern in the shop.

  • Tutorial: Gold Leaf Cat Bracelet

This jewelry tutorial will show you how to make a gold leaf cat bracelet.  I love pretty much anything with cats, and things that glitter, so why not combine the two?

  • Knit Pattern: Mini Bowtie Necklace

This pattern shows you how to knit a bow, which can be made into a necklace, headband, pin for your lapel or anything!  This is the mini version, which measures 4.5” x 2.25” (11.43cm x 5.72cm).  I also have a pattern for the bigger knit bow.  Below you’ll find the instructions to knit your own…or if you’re not feeling inspired, you can buy a mini bow necklace from the shop.

Also, each Monday I’m going to post a new pattern, tutorial, or DIY project here on the blog.  Until I run out of ideas…or get lazy.

  • This morning, I was so excited to find this little surprise hiding in my mailbox! Cloth magazine pulled together their favorite boutiques and bloggers and guess who they featured - ME!  Also, I’m glad that my sense of style is clearly being observed as quirky.

In other news about me, since that’s what today is obviously about…I’ve added some new brassy jewelry to the shop, made from a mix of vintage and new brass.  Simple and minimal pieces.

  • Recreate This Look

I stumbled upon this red orange A-line skirt and white button down combo from Vogue China, and thought each of the pieces would be pretty easy to make/find.  I love that it’s pretty 60s with an interesting blouse….and A-line skirts are always flattering.

    To Make

    • Burdastyle has a perfect A-line skirt sewing pattern.  It even has pockets!
    • Also, from Burdastyle, a tailored button down blouse sewing pattern.  The collar on this is *perfect*.

    To Buy

    • The Skirt: Buy a vintage orange red A-line skirt from Pursuing Andie, a vintage high-waisted orange skirt from Nemres, or, a new red A-line mini skirt from Asos.
    • The Blouse: Try out a 60s vintage shirt from Vaux Vintage or a vintage peter pan collar shirt from Mammas Chest.  You can also check out a peter pan blouse with pintucks from Asos.

Emerald Green for Spring 2013
I think I have literally no green in my closet, but am not opposed to it.  These are some of my favorite emerald green picks for 2013.  Since it’s not a color I normally gravitate towards, shopping vintage is a good way to test it out and adding a few pieces here and there without going crazy.
